English phonetic sound in Tamil

Tamil Phonetic sound in english
English phonology refers to the sound system (phonology) of the English language, or to the study of that system. Like many languages, English has wide variation in pronunciation, both historically and from dialect to dialect. In general, however, the regional dialects of English share a largely similar (though not identical) phonological system.

Phonological analysis of English often concentrates on, or uses as a reference point, one or more of the prestige or standard accents, such as Received Pronunciation for England, General American for the United States, and General Australian for Australia.

Wallet: What to carry and what not to

Credit cards: Ideally, says Hobson, consumers should own just one credit card. "The whole idea that you need more than one credit card is a fallacy," she says. "Cancelling your second credit card will hurt your credit score in the short term, but in the long term, it's better for you." If you have more than one, Tova recommends locking the rest in a safe. "If your wallet gets stolen, ask to have your credit card account numbers changed," she advises. Also, cut up expired credit cards. "An identity thief can still use them to steal your identity," Hobson says. "That's something people think is just harmless and it's not." less

Sensitive information: Never store your PIN or your passwords in your wallet. "Surprisingly, a lot of people actually keep their debit card's PIN in their wallet right next to their debit card," Hobson says. "That's just setting yourself up for disaster."

Receipts: Receipts for the week are fine, Hobson says, "but there's nothing worse than seeing a wallet stuffed with receipts from the last year." Just be careful you're not keeping receipts with too much personal information on them. Check to make sure you're not carrying around receipts that list your entire credit card number.

Why do you want to work here?

This is common question asked by employers when you have interview session with them. You should highlight the aspects to have that company in line of potential companies.

What are your weaknesses?

Tell the employer that you can improve on the situation when he asks you about your weaknesses. You can also answer this question in the way that there was time when you were not able to address with group of people but now you have improved yourself regarding this.

Why should we hire you?

Employer will surely want to know why you are to be hired for a responsible position and ultimately he will ask you this question? You must Highlights records of your achievements and success that you make throughout your career life. Providing such type of information will satisfy the employer to very extent.

Tell me about your goals?

This question is also asked by most of the employers and you should describe your short term goals that you want to achieve in near future.

Why you left your previous job?

You will be definitely asked this question if you have some experience. So you should be clear and give concise answer of such questions. Tell the employer principal reasons that may include opportunities of progression and aspirations.

What are your professional skills?

In this situation, asking this question is very important and you must give a clear and concise answer of this question.

These questions are mostly asked by the employer so you must be well prepared for job interview to have useful discussion with interviewer.

How to Speak in an Interview

THE formula for success in job interviews is not written in stone, especially when it comes to tricky questions. For instance if you are being interviewed for a sales position, a potential employer may ask you, “What would you do if a clients hinted at kickbacks?”

How would you respond? Will you appear shocked or deliver your answer with poise? Here are some suggestions on how to answer 10 such questions. Being prepared will give an edge, and not to mention, boost your confidence.

1. Tell us about a difficult relationship in your personal life you have had to cope with?

Don’t go into too many details about what happened, when and where. Don’t condemn the other person or defend yourself. Talk about what you had learnt from the experience.

2. Your boss-to-be is short-tempered, impatient and abrasive. Can you work with someone, of such a temperament?

Working with a short-tempered and very abrasive boss is not easy. Stating that you can effectively work under each and every person, in any and every situation will make you seem over-confident, and unrealistic. Do you get upset if you’re shouted or screamed at? Does it leave you de-motivated or disillusioned for long? If your answer to the latter question is in the negative, let the panel know that unpleasant experiences don’t weigh you down for too long.

3. Since you are in sales, some clients may hint at getting kick-backs. How will you handle such situations, since as a policy we don’t offer bribes?

When asked awkward questions like this, it helps if you plead ignorance. It may be also a test to check your views on bribes. They may ask if you have bribed anyone or what you would do, if you witnessed a government employee accepting a bribe. Tell them your personal experiences or views. Companies always respect individuals who are truthful and who possess a clear (not rigid) opinion on most matters.

4. Why have you fared averagely in Academics?

Many interviewers pay importance to what you have scored in your board examinations. If you had fared averagely and are asked to explain the reason, there’s not much you can do. It would help if you honestly admit that you have only yourself to blame (if that is really the case) and in future you will be clear about your priorities and work hard to achieve your goals.

5. Our industry requires a lot of social interaction with clients - over drinks and at parties. Are you comfortable with smoking and drinking?

Smoking isn’t cool. And many corporate head-honchos are teetotallers. It may be okay to say that you are uncomfortable around smokers and don’t enjoy social drinking. And do you really need to explain why you would not like to smoke or drink? No, it’s a personal choice.

If you’re applying for a job in an advertising or marketing consulting firm you may be asked if you’re okay with working on a tobacco or liquor account. If you feel you can never perform your job well, if the job involves promoting these products, then mention that you want to work on brands, which you are passionate about, and since you are convinced that tobacco or alcohol is injurious to health you may not be the best person to work on an account that involves actively promoting related brands.

6. Since you are a lady, and most of our clients are males, it is highly likely that some clients will try to be over-friendly. How will you handle such situations?

Will you be upset by such behaviour? If you’re confident that you can deal with such clients, only then tell the interviewers how you think you can be professional, yet not interact with clients who you’re uncomfortable with. Honesty is the best policy.

7. Tell us about your weaknesses?

What do you say besides the stereotyed ‘good’ weaknesses – impatience, over-enthusiasm? All of us have weaknesses, but do we need to mention all? And do you weaknesses surface all the time, or on occasions? For instance, while talking about your own traits such as a short temper or abrasiveness you can indicate that you display such traits or behaviour at some times only.

If your weakness is lack of time management, you could say that you are working on it and hope to overcome it over a period of time. Think about this and answer accordingly.

8. You will be replacing a person who we are letting go of. In the few weeks that you spend with him, you have to learn as much about his job so that you can continue doing his work effectively. Do you feel you are okay with this arrangement?

Not an easy situation to be in. While you can try your best to learn as much as you can, what will you do in case your predecessor does not cooperate and tell you all that you need to know? You could point out that you may need your organisation’s support, cooperation and intervention, if need be, in such a circumstance.

9. What if we hired you for one job profile and then change it within weeks?

Your response will depend on your future plans. If you’re interested in a sales job, because you want to pursue a career in marketing, then you’d obviously not want to work in finance or accounts. However, if you’re unsure which area interests you, and would like to learn about the different functions in an organisation, this might be a good opportunity to explore. You should preferably talk about why you prefer some roles or jobs. At the same time try to avoid talking about why you don’t like particular roles.

10. What salary do you expect? What if we told you we cannot pay you for the first three months?

State that since it is the start of your career, learning and experience are more important than salary. If you’re still asked to quote a specific amount give them a general indication on what you would like to earn. Don’t over-quote. If a company states that for whatever reason they won’t pay a salary for the first few months, make sure they are not one of those outfits, which exploit those who need work experience. If the organisation offers a good learning environment, tell them you’re joining the organisation for the valuable experience and you’re confident you’ll soon receive a salary commensurate with your performance.

Cardinal rules

1. Arrive preferably 15 minutes early, so you can relax, freshen up

2. Gauge the company dress code, dress appropriately

3. No unclean hair, sweaty visage or dirty hands with pen marks

4. Keep two copies of your rèsumè, handy

5. Carry a notepad and pen

6. Be poised, confident, but not too relaxed or over-confident.

7. If you’re unsure about an answer and need time to think, request the interviewer if you can take a minute to think and respond

8. Be patient, be courteous

9. Never interrupt even if the interviewer is stating a wrong fact. Let him complete the sentence and then respond. Words like ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ also go a long way

10. If there are two or more interviewers, make eye contact with all

Heart attack symptoms in men and women

The symptoms of a heart attack is men and women are very similar, a new study has found.

"Both the media and some patient educational materials frequently suggest that women experience symptoms of a heart attack very differently from men," said Martha Mackay from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, who led the study. "These findings suggest that this is simply not the case."

In the study, scientists monitored the symptoms of 305 patients undergoing angioplasty - a procedure which involves inserting and inflating a balloon into narrowed arteries to expand them. This briefly causes symptoms in the patient simililar to those experienced during a heart attack.

Researchers found no difference in the symptoms reported by men and women, including rates of chest discomfort and 'typical' signs such as arm discomfort, shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, indigestion-like symptoms, and clammy skin.

While both women and men experienced typical or non-typical symptoms, women were, however, more likely to report throat, jaw and neck discomfort than men.

"Clear educational messages need to be crafted to ensure that both women and healthcare professionals realize the classic symptoms are equally common in men and women", Ms MacKay said.

She added that suspected heart disease patients should be questioned more thoroughly about their symptoms by doctors.

Back Bone Problems

Posture & It’s Effects

Have you ever been in a rush and just sat at the computer real quick? Were both your feet touching the ground, neck looking straight forward, or wrists raised from the keyboard? The answer to those questions for majority of people would say no. This is all a main cause and effect of bad posture.
Slouching, not sitting correctly in your chair, or not having your two feet touch the ground are inncorrect.

Your computer monitor should be eye level or slightly lower.
Your wrists should be raised form the keyboard and mouse to the right of your keyboard.
Shoulders downward and back help make your back straight.
Sitting correctly in a chair with your back straight helps relieve all back problems.
Keeping your neck straight forward at your monitor relives neck and cramps in your shoulders.
Having both feet on the ground keeps a good center of balance.
If you ever get stiff look on my blog for good streches!

How to improve your Sitting Posture

Nobody can disagree with the fact that a good posture is a sign of good health. Be it a man or woman the first thing that catches our eyes is their posture.
And that speaks a world about the person within. An erect, upright posture exudes confidence and grandeur, while the slouching and stooping person looks like a tired, defeated moron.

But the fact of the matter is that the young dudes and dudettes of today are finding it increasingly difficult to maintain a good posture. Why? During our school days we had to bear the burden of heavy bags, the weight of which made our backs stoop under the strain. Even when we sat down to study, our backs curled up into an arc. In fact I am pretty sure that even as you are reading this article, your back is all curled up.
What’s at Stake
A good posture is all about good health. But sadly, it is the most overlooked facet of fitness. An unsightly carriage may be the start of numerous backaches and back problems. You may also develop a permanent stoop if you are that careless. You use various cosmetics and fairness products to improve your complexion or skin, then why neglect the posture, which may be screaming at you, ‘Stand Upright.’

When you stand next to a full-length mirror, adjust your back so that it forms a straight line; erect shoulders, hips, knees and ankles. That’s how you should maintain your posture. But many of you may become the same old slouch potato as soon as you move away from the mirror!

While standing, it is also important to relax and bend your knees slightly. This is because a too erect posture would also look odd. Especially if you’re standing in a long queue, be sure to keep shifting your weight from one side to other. And while bending down to pick up something don’t put the full weight on the waist, but bend your knees along with your waist.
Now if you are standing with your back to a wall, your shoulder blades and backside of your head should touch the wall. Even while watching your favorite movie or surfing the net, you may be hunching your shoulders and slouching your poor back, and your neck would be leaning forward. This is definitely a wrong posture and it may lead to health problems like headaches and backaches. This position essentially relies on the bones and muscular strength of the body, rather than the spinal cord.

Even those who do regular exercises aren’t keen on good posture, and exercises like lifting weights or jogging doesn’t need a good posture. But meditation and yoga are a great way to improve your drooping posture. Yoga, especially, is an excellent way to develop the habit of good posture. In yoga, you have to sit and stand erect with your chest out and your shoulder blades pulled back.

Xpert standing position
o While standing, make sure that your head is held up straight and your chin should be in and not jutting out. Make sure that your head is not tilted forward, sideways or backwards.
o The earlobes should be in line with the middle of your shoulders.
o Your shoulder blades should always be pulled back.
o Your chest should be straight and so should your knees
o Keep your stomach tucked in and try not to keep your pelvis tilted forward or backward.
o Don’t stand in a particular position for any length of time.
o If it’s possible, try to adjust the height of your desk to a position that allows you to sit comfortably while allowing you to keep your back straight.
o As a part of your posture improving exercise regime, first elevate your right foot and rest it on a low stool or box. After a few minutes switch your foot.
Xpert Sitting position
o Ever heard of rhomboids? They are those muscles that lie between your shoulders. You may do several exercises to work out your rhomboids.
o Always use a high raised chair and sit with your hips kissing the back of the chair.
o If the chair is inadequate in supporting your back, then keep a soft pillow at the back area to support your lower backside. It also fills up the straight area of a chair that leaves the lumbar area of your backside unsupported. Also, try not to sit in the same position for a long time and get up and take a break after every 30 minutes.
o Also, if possible adjust the height of the chair, which would allow you to sit as straight as possible without feeling uncomfortable. Also try and keep your shoulders relaxed by resting your elbows on the arms of your chair.
o While getting up, instead of bending your waist forward, stand up by first straightening your legs. Then immediately do a gentle stretching exercise to get rid of any lingering stiffness.
Xpert driving position
o While driving, take care not to tilt the seat far too back. That may make you lean forward and leave your lower backside unsupported.
o Always keep a lumbar roll to support the small of your back. Also make sure that your knees are at a slightly higher level than your hips.
Use the helpful tips and guidelines mentioned above and make a difference in your posture for largely positive effects.
By religiously following the above mentioned tips, not only will your posture improve but you will also suffer from lesser back pain than usual.

How to Speak Professionally on the Phone

How many times have you spoken with someone on the phone and thought to yourself how unprofessional they were? Make sure others are not saying the same about you.

1.Answer the phone in as few rings as possible. No one likes to be forced to wait.

2.Prepare yourself with a pen and paper while taking a call so that you can note down the information of the customer.

3.Identify yourself and the company you work for (if at work) as soon as you answer. For example, say "Thank you for calling ABC Co., this is John speaking." Likewise you ask the caller who they are and where they are calling from if they don't offer those details to you, especially if your company has a strict policy on receiving unsolicited calls. Taking control of the call from the beginning will let the caller know your a professional: For example:

4."Good morning ABC Co., John Speakinng". Caller: "Can I speak to Bill?" Respondent: "Who's calling Please?" Caller: "Tom". Respondent: "Where are you calling from?" Caller: "England". Respondent: "and the company name?" Caller: "oh it's a personal call". Respondent: "Is Bill expecting your call?". Caller: "No". Respondent: "OK let me try his line for you"...

5.By taking control of the call and asking 'the right' questions you have gathered as much information as possible before transfering a call and hopefuly illiminated the chance of an unsolicited call be put through but also you are able to supply 'Bill' with the information he needs before accepting the call. Avoid opening your questions with "can I" or "would you mind if I" if you open with these you risk loosing control of the call the caller could easily say "yes I do mind" or "no you can't" so just ask direct questions be polite and remeber you are within your rights to ask questions, if the caller gets irritated just explain: "thank you for your understanding I am sure you can appreciate we/I deal with a large number of calls by asking you these questions I can ensure your call is directed swiftly and correctly to the right person or department, thank you".

6.Always assume someone from your organization is listening in on the conversation. Organizations adding this ability in will usually announce it AFTER they have installed and used it.

7.Always ask before putting someone on hold, and wait for a reply.

8.Check that the intended recipient is happy to take the call. If somebody asks if they can speak to someone specific, tell the caller that you will "try their line" before putting them on hold and checking that the recipient is a) available and b) ready to speak to them.

9.Use correct grammar. Always remember to say "Jane and I" for your subject, and reserve "Jane and me" when you are the direct object (i.e. "Jane and I went to the store" vs. "He talked to Jane and me"). Do not leave the word "at" dangling at the end of a sentence. Ex.: "I do not know where it is at."

10.That old adage, "the customer is always right" holds some truth - however not all the time. The one thing you can count on, though, is that you will never win an argument with a customer. When the customer is wrong, gently explain the correct "truth", in a positive manner. If the customer gets upset and his tone changes to one of annoyance or anger, do not mirror him. Maintain your pleasant tone! "Reflect" his or her feelings back, so that s/he feels you have really heard the complaint; saying things like, "I can hear how frustrating this is for you, and I'm so sorry for that" can go a long way toward soothing an irritated client. If the customer is not satisfied, ask what he or she would like done. Consider it and accept it or tell the customer why you cannot accept. Offer alternatives, if possible.

11.Try to solve the problem within the call time .

12.Phone conversation lacks the obvious input of body language; the recipient on the other end will receive your true intentions through the actual tone of voice you use during the call. Your tone will say more than the actual words that come out of your mouth. Having said this, smile when you speak on the phone! This point of smiling really hit home with the senior management of a call center, and they placed little mirrors at each of the Agent's stations that said: "What you see is what they hear."

13.Use the caller's name, whenever possible. It shows that you are a good listener and adds a personal touch "I'm sorry John, but Mark isn't available at the moment. Can I help you with anything or take a message?"

14.When calling another person, identify yourself first. For example, say "This is Mary Hunter calling for Louis Meyer, please."

15.Remember to close your conversation with a professional closing. End your conversations with a sincere "Good-day", or "Thank you".
