The FIAT name is an acronym for Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino (Italian Car Factory of Turin), founded in 1899. As the company began, a special poster was created to celebrate the event. At the top left of the poster, the artist includes a small parchment containing the company name. This very elaborate design becomes the first logo. After several redesigns, the FIAT logo was simplified, becoming circular, with the name in red on a white background. The stylized laurel garland around the outside is intended to celebrate FIAT's victorious participation in the first competitive motor races. Starting in 1968, the corporate logo featuring four blue rhombuses was adopted, but at the end of the 20th the company decides to return to old style logo. So, in 2006 a new FIAT logo was launched, seen for the first time on the Bravo, and set to be used on all future FIAT vehicles. Fiat explains the return to the old style by saying that the new logo is "designed to convey ongoing change, a sign of the past re-written in a modern key, which is particularly representative of Fiat today, a brand which is focused towards the challenges of the future, but also proud of its historical identity". The new FIAT logo is designed to sum up the mission of an Italian company that for over one hundred years has been building good-looking cars that are accessible and capable of guaranteeing the best quality of everyday life.

The vibrant black silhouette of the Ferrari horse also represents the popular belief that a horse on the top of a car would always guide its driver to victory. Another assumption suggests Baracca copied the jumping horse design from a shot down German pilot who had the emblem of the city of Stuttgart on his plane. This horse theme comes from the origins of the city's name Stutengarten, an ancient form of the modern German word Gestut, which translates into English as stud farm and into Italian as scuderia. Ferrari has used the Cavallino Rampante on official company stationery since 1929, while the yellow background was added to honor Modena - as yellow is the city's historic color.
Skoda corporate logo
Skoda Auto has presented the new corporate identity and unveiled new logo at the Geneva International Motor Show 2011. The new logo claims to reflect the Skoda's new design language and the start of a new era in the company's brand development. In brief, the new logo has kept the same lines, with the indian arrow in the middle, but without the Skoda Auto text. The icon is featured in green to emphasize Skoda's focus on ecology and environment.

Following on the footsteps of Nike and Apple, there is a certain trend lately in loosing all the clutter and even wording and building on a strong and memorable symbol. When trying to be unique and recognizable, the best thing to do is to attribute yourself not another word, but a strong image that you could transform into a powerful mark. We've seen this done recently with Starbucks Coffee (they have also got rid of the wording in the logo and kept only the siren as an identifiable icon) and Skoda Auto seems to be following on the same design and branding path.
Building on the tag line message, "simply clever", Skoda Auto updated its logo into a smart and powerful mark, with simplicity and friendliness as the key concepts. The indian arrow has been kept, updated and pushed forward as the main design element, and in my opinion, it is a symbol strong enough to support the image of Skoda Auto brand.
My only concern is, that with the new logo, Skoda Auto lost some of the elegance the previous mark had. By emphasizing the simplicity, the friendliness and the "Go Green" concept, the new logo has become less classy. The updated green color in the logo has become less powerful and it's somehow lost itself in the environmental sea. Only the time will tell.
It's always an interesting fact to look at a company's logo history and the Czech motor company had an amazing journey in this respect. With few exceptions, Skoda logos were always elegant at some extend, this being an argument to my comment above.

Air cleaner/filter: Air is drawn through it. Contains a filter that blocks dirt before it can enter the engine.
Air intake manifold: Air is distributed into the combustion chamber.
Alternator: Takes over from the battery when the engine is running. Recharges the battery and supplies power to all electrical components.
Battery: Supplies the initial electrical power that starts the engine.
Carburetor: Most new cars now have fuel injected engines. Older vehicles have carburetors. This gadget mixes air and fuel in the proper ratio for burning in the engine’s combustion chambers.
Coolant reservoir (tank): Holds hot coolant (antifreeze) that overflows from the radiator and also draws back into the radiator as it is needed.
Distributor: Distributes high voltage electricity to the spark plugs, one at a time.

Exhaust manifold: Set of pipes, one for each cylinder that conducts exhaust away from cylinders.
Fuel injection system: Sprays controlled amount of fuel directly into either the intake manifold or combustion chambers, resulting in a very precise air to fuel ratio that improves fuel economy.
Muffler: The interior “baffles” and tubes quiet the explosive release of exhaust.
Suspension system: This system receives a great deal of punishment from the roads. This system consists of shock absorbers, Struts, springs, and motor mounts, tires, tie rods, ball joints, control arms, torsion bar, strut rods, spindle, axles.
Power steering reservoir: This reservoir contains fluid for your power steering system. Once the reservoir cap is unscrewed the cap will consist of a dip stick. This will identify the fluid levels.

Brake fluid reservoir: The brake fluid level can be inspected by the plastic box or bottle by the fire wall on the driver side.
Disc brakes: A metal disk that spins with the wheel that the brake pad uses to pressure against to stop.
Oil dip stick: The stick that’s used to check the level of the motor oil.
Rear Axle: A shaft that connects the power from the transmission to the wheels.
Radiator: The device that helps to remove heat from the cooling system as coolant passes through it.

Timing Belt: Replace as scheduled if applicable for your vehicle. Timing belts are commonly used on Japanese cars. The timing belt is a rubber belt that drives the engine’s internal components. The timing belt is not easily visible and should be replaced at the indicated mileage and time not on visual wear like a normal drive belt. If the timing belt breaks, the engine stops and costly internal engine damage can occur. The water pump on some vehicles is driven by the timing belt, and should be replaced with the timing belt replacement. Consult owner’s manual or ask the repair shop if this is the case on your car.

Most of us women don’t think we are smart enough to understand how a car’s engine works, but they’re dead wrong. If a man can understand, so can we. We don’t have to know how to fix them, but it helps if we understand them.
