------------------------------

“Simpler a thing is, nobler it is”, said the legendary Sathyajith Ray. He would have reiterated his stance now had he watched Krishna (Vikram) in Deiva Thirumagal.

What would you call someone who is an embodiment of all things good, simple and virtuous but appears in the eyes of blemished materialistic world as aberrated? A Deiva Thirumagan, indeed!

DT is a poetical tale of love and affection between a dad and his 5 year old daughter who is the raison d’être of his life. He may be a mentally challenged person to the world but he is after all her dad.

Director Vijay’s caliber as an effective raconteur keeps escalating in every film of his and DT is the latest example. His matured handling of the script and his characters are just testimony to this. It is endearing to watch this tale unravel itself in a very charming and touching fashion.

There are no villains in DT but all the characters are driven by the goodness exuded by its lead Vikram. One of the first frames, where Krishna helps the pickpocket guy sums up his characterization. The subsequent shots of him abiding the traffic signal, wanting to stick to truth only and helping a hatchling to its nest lucidly spells forth his character. In a way, it is Vikram all the way…

What can you say about this actor whose sincerity and talents that are not already known? It is not Vikram you see but it is Krishna and a dad wanting to be with his daughter suffering the pangs of separation. He has done the tightrope walking of playing a mentally challenged person to the hilt. A little sway on any one side would have worked detrimental to him as an actor and the film. The seasoned actor that he is has given a brilliant performance.

Anushka looks ravishing and as a struggling lawyer gets her act right wanting to bring justice to her client. Santhanam’s comedy gels along with the story line and brings in enjoyable lighter moments. Nasser as the intelligent and cunning senior advocate Bhashyam is apt and delivers a veteran’s performance. However it is baby Sara who steals the show next only to Vikram in her angelic looks and performance. There is a serene look about her which helps the role majorly and her understanding of her dad and playing to his inadequacies warrant accolades. Amala Paul has a small role and delivers it right. The supporting casts of Y Gee Mahendra, Sachin Khedekar, Karthik Kumar, Krishna Kumar, Surekha, M R Kishore and Priya have also essayed their roles quite effectively. .

Setting the right kind of mood through his camera work has been cinematographer Nirav Shah’s forte which he has adhered to in DT. Nirav has had a field day in Vizhigalil Oru Vaanavil number which is aesthetics at its best. Anushka’s expressions in this sequence and the oblivious Vikram behind her on the bike are a revelation. The sleek and discreet editing helps the proceeding in a big way. G V Prakash’s scores are already chartbusters and each track adds significant value to the film. Ore oru oorukkula number is sure to be children’s favorite

Dialogues like “Vakil kitayum doctor kittayum poi pesa koodathu, aana vakillum doctorum poi pesalam” and ‘Saamikku amma kedayaada’ are noteworthy. There are quite a scenes that tug at your heart’s strings and almost all of them happen between the dad and the daughter, the cream being the one between them in the court room towards the end and that on the first day of Sara’s school where the duo communicate with each other in sign language.

On the flip side a few scenes involving M S Bhaskar and the helper don’t add value to the progress of the film. However considering the overwhelming positive feeling that the film evokes in its entirety, these foibles can be forgiven.

After a long while, DT gives the satisfaction of watching a film without cringing in your seats or worrying how it would appeal to the young population. In short Deiva Thirumagal is a well nuanced film that will appeal to everyone who has their heart and feelings in the right place.

Verdict: An emotional tale between a father and a daughter well told

Not all films come with an aura. But Deiva Thirumagal is sure one. However, this A L Vijay-directed Vikram starrer is strictly not for those who faithfully worship fast-paced mass masala entertainers.

Throwing light on not-so-often-seen human emotions, Deiva Thirumagal, produced by Mogan Nadarajan's Sri Rajakaliamman Media and presented by UTV Motion Pictures, is bit slow and predictable, but at the same so strong and straight-forward.

Credits go to Vikram for coming forward to accept such a role (of a mentally challenged man) and for delivering goods with all sincerity and dedication. It's a question whether anyother actor of his stature would have done such a character, that too with this kind of commitment.

Krishna (Vikram) works in a choocalate factory in Ooty. Physically a man and mentally a five-year-old boy, Krishna has a cute daughter too (Sara), and her name is Nila. Both share a great bond.

However, troubles come in the form of Rajendran (Sachin Khedkar), who is the grandfather of Nila (her mother's father). He takes away the child from Krishna, saying that her future would be affected if she grows with a mentally challenged father.

The child is now taken care of by Shwetha (Amala Paul), the other daughter of Rajendran. Now Krishna knocks the door of advocates Anuradha (Anushka) and Vinod (Santhanam). The rest is a legal battle.

As said already, Vikram is the real strength of the film. Anushka is really good in a performance-oriented role, while Amala Paul emotes well. Santhanam and Nasser add value to the film with their convincing performance.

Nirav Shah's cinematography and G V Prakash Kumar's music takes us more close towards the script. On the whole, though the film is slow and predictable, Deiva Thirumagal can be watched for Vikram's performance and Vijay's making.

---------------------------------

Introductory Song for the Hero, Minimum five fights, Roaring Villains, Three Duets - These are all the unwritten formula for any successful Tamil Film. But Once a while , we people come across with some real movies in our industry..Eventhough the film is inspired from " I am Sam " , Deiva Thirumagal has unique , perfect narration which is better than the original English version and far far better than the Bollywood version. Deiva Thirumagal is a KURINJI POO like Moontraam Pirai and Poove Poo Choodavaa !

VIJAY : Vijay narrates the film in superb manner from the first frame till the last frame..The way he introduces his characters are very simple ..But the way he extracts the talents of each and every artist is simply awesome.. He has finished the film with very neat script and screenplay.. The first half is poetic , while the second half is racy and interesting..Its too difficult for a director to move the scenes in fast manner without fights and villains. But Vijay has proved himself that, he is able to achieve magical touches like Balu Mahendra. Vijay has done wonderful job in the court scenes in second half of the film..After Sujatha's Vidhi, this is the film, which has shown court scenes very interestingly..There is no dragging during the entire course of post intermission session of the film..One positive approach in this film is Vijay has used lawyer’s characters very nicely in this film..He has portrayed the other side, the funny side of the lawyers and court proceedings in this film..The love affair between the junior lawyers of Naasar and Anushka is too awesome and realistic ..Its unusual for a Tamil Cinema, portraying healthy and decent funs of Lawyers..

TOP FIVE SCENES OF VIJAY'S TOUCH :

5. Vikram and his daughter Sara convey their feelings through the full moon.

4. Vikram as a sincere Childish Boy, respects the traffic rules even in a very critical condition..A Lesson to all of us .

3. The turning point, [ Vikram takes care of the kid of Naaser ] which converts the mind of the lawyer Naaser in the last court scene..

2. The climax , where Vikram handsover the child to Amala Paul, which is completely different from the original version..

1. In the last court scene , while the entire court is concentrating on the court proceedings Vikram and the angel girl Sara - both convey their love , anger, affection, happiness with hand signals and face expressions ..WOW awesome Vijay ! Everybody , the whole audience of the entire theater loves that scene with tears..

I have seen usually the audience stand and clap at the end of the movie, when they see the words in the screen " A film by Bala" or " A film by Mani Ratnam"..But after a long gap , I have seen , the whole audience of Deiva Thirumagal movie stand and clap their hands at the end , when they have seen the words " A film by Vijay" ..Hats off VIJAY..YOU ROCK !

VIKRAM : He is the PITHAMAGAN in acting . One can give accolades VIKRAM with the Crown for his acting skills. Yes Vikram is the right person to acquire the Acting skill Olympic torch from the Legend Kamal , who had got that precious one from the late Legend Shivaji Ganasen ! We can’t imagine none other than Vikram in that role..Yes he is a NAVARASA NAYAGAN..In the first frame of the film, I was really shocked by seeing Vikram's characterization. How he could manage the image like this for a whole film..? But after watching his extraordinary performance in one stage I forgot about Vikram and after that my mind got accommodated that , He is not Vikram , He is Krishna ..I can’t write like this, TOP FIVE SCENES OF VIKRAM'S ACTING because in each and every scene , Vikram lives as Krishna..Vikram's body language, his dialog delivery, facial expressions, are the three major plus points for that character..None could find out any artificial expressions or over acting of Vikram during the full course of the film..He delivers natural act frame to frame..The tears rolling from the eyes of every audience are the real gift for Vikram's performance in this film..Vikram 's wonderful performance had disturbed my sleep for two nights..I find no other words to describe his performance in this film..

Sara [ Nila ] , the angel girl as Vikram's daughter , No chance..I wonder how this child delivers such wonderful expressions without any dialogue. Usually in our Tamil film child artists had been shown as over smart kids with mature dialog and over acting. But this Nila girl is not at all over acting and delivers her facial expressions with awesome performance..

Anushka , tall, cute, slim, perfect, heroine. She has shown her talents in unique way.. It’s tough for a heroine to perform her role perfectly in this type of film..But at the end of the day, she proves herself that , she too has the capacity to expose her talents at any kind of film..I think she has no competitor right now in South Indian Film Industry..Well done Anushka !

Naaser, the experienced guy never ever disappoints viewers at any time..As " Bhasyam" his performance is appapappapappaa !!! adadadadaa !!!

Santhanam as usual rocks. Smart looking comedian. Great work...Once again he has proved that he is the luckiest comedian at current trend of Tamil Cinema..

Nirav Shaw's cinematography and GV Prakash Kumar's BGM are the plus pints for this wonderful movie.
